Portable Scanners for MAC January 6, 2009 Pros: It works consistently-speed, duplex, color quality, appearance of scan Cons: a little pricey, bulky for travel with a few stops, lacks a powerful system such as Adobe Acrobat
Overall: Even though the above checklist seems to have more cons; the consistency and speed really works and trumps the inconveniences
A Snap to use December 30, 2008 I had been using another more mobile scanner with limited results. The ScanSnap really works well. I'm also using Receipt Wallet to classify all my docs. The smart file options really works well. The only negative is the limited access with Mac due to it not being a twain scanner.
10x better compression December 12, 2008 Best. Scanner. Ever. Not only its hardware being excellent, the software for Mac is also very neat.
I've been using an all-in-one printer and a flatbed scanner, but I should have noticed this product earlier: It's much easier to adjust to any document size, much faster, and the best thing is, the compression efficiency is super. The same document which was 1MB scanned with the Brother's all-in-one printer is now 100KB or so, with the same good enough quality to my eyes! And you can even configure the resolution and the compression quality intuitively. That makes a serious difference in use cases. GREAT PRODUCT. Go Fujitsu go!
pleased, but... November 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am very well pleased with the scanner. The duplex function is great and the capability to add several pages to be scanned at the same time is a good feature. I scanned in over 500 old photos in an hour or so and they all came out great. I would, however, like the opportunity to change the save setting for each scan, if I would prefer, and also to be able to select the folder for that scan. It may be possible to do this, but I haven't figured it out. My photos are Alabama001 through Alabama 549, for instance. If I want to scan in receipts, I need to change the filename and also the folder in the setup menu each time. Not user friendly in that regard.
Great scanner... well worth the extra money November 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was using a very slow (and old) Canoscan LiDE 30 flatbed on my iMac and decided that the software was too glitchy and the scanner too slow for doing my monthly scanning of receipts for expense reports. I looked at the Neat Receipts and a few other low cost options but finally bit the bullet and decided on the Fujitsu S300M. I didn't think I needed duplex scanning and figured the speed would be negligible. I think I was wrong.
This scanner is incredibly fast, doesn't take much space, straightens crooked scans, removes blank pages, and did I say it is incredibly fast? This will cut out hours of time arranging things onto the flatbed and waiting for it to scan.
The included Cardiris software for business cards doesn't seem to do too good of job, but I've read that you can buy much better solutions that work with this scanner. That isn't really a big focus for me so I'm not too worried about it. I also sent a form in for a free copy of the OCR program Readiris Pro. Again, I don't need this too urgently but who knows, if it works well and is easy enough I may start using it for other things.
Not too much to complain about. I guess if I was looking to criticize anything it would be that this scanner, to operate at full speed, needs to be plugged into the wall. It does have the option for USB-port power, but requires two USB cables to be connected to the computer (and apparently operates more slowly). My old scanner needed only one USB cable and no power connection. But any time spent plugging this in is more than countered in time saved doing actual scans.
If you are looking for a small, fast scanner for the Mac that doesn't give you a lot of headaches, this is a good bet. I certainly don't regret spending the extra money for the performance of the S300M.
