5 out of 5 stars Perfect!   November 18, 2008
I bought this for my husband for father's day '07. He absolutely loved it from the minute he opened it. He is a big reader so I knew it would be perfect. He takes it everywhere esp. when he travels. He spends ALOT less then if he were buying the books so it already has paid for itself.
He says it's the best present he ever received. No cons, even reviews about the buttons don't seem to be an issue. I have recommended this to my friends for their husbands.

5 out of 5 stars Our Second Kindle   November 18, 2008
After my husband took our Kindle on a business trip, I knew I needed to buy him one of his own. With the way you can share your Kindle Library with another user, he didn't even need to buy books, but could read many of those I had purchased over the past year. Too busy to find samples of his own, I am also able to send samples directly to his Kindle, a special treat when he is on the road. Sharing your Kindle is a hard thing to do and buying a second one was the answer for us.

5 out of 5 stars Simply the best there is!!   November 18, 2008
What a joy! to be able to download books and have them at hand without books taking up oodles of space. For travel there is none better, you never run out of reading materiel. No more lugging heavy totes around filled with books and it's much lighter than a paperback!

5 out of 5 stars My Kindle   November 18, 2008

While the Kindle will never replace Books...it does give it a great
second place. Getting the News and Magazines is such a "Good Thing"
Traveling on Planes or Cars this is the best...hated to travel with
several PaperBacks or HardCover Books - this is a breeze.
The way this works (beautifully I might add)..I soon expect it to
have a GPS system...and where the best dinner or lunch is served!

3 out of 5 stars I really like the product, but I don't see myself reading books on it   November 18, 2008

I'm a big Amazon fan and I really admire what you are trying to do with the Kindle. Moreover, I am a book lover and someone familiarized with the history of the book. My two cents:

The Kindle is a great product, but...
for it to revolutionize the way I read books, the price per copy has to drop drastically. At $9.99 per Kindle book, I simply prefer to buy the hard copy, which is usually only a few dollars more expensive. Moreover, this lets me have a tangible "thing" that I can collect and look at on my bookshelves. The sense of ownership, the visual and tactile pleasure of the physicial book (even for cheapo or "disposable" books) is there in a way that the Kindle book does not offer. Now, if a Kindle book cost $2.99 or $3.99, I might buy both the physical and the digital copy of books I care about and buy the Kindle copy exclusively in the case of books I really don't care about. For now, I use it for reading my Wall Street Journal and saving a few trees every year. In any case, I look forward to see how the Kindle evolves and, believe me, I understand the economics behind the $9.99 price tag. The problem is that, for me, it is a serious stumbling block for the technology to conquer.
