Product Description Bring your audio and video to life with an excellent HDMI DVD player for your TV. When you use an HDMI port for connectivity with your 1080p capable TV. this Philips DV5982 DVD Player will upconvert an ordinary DVD to appear as if it were native to 1080p. multi-region DVD player January 9, 2009 Bought this to play Region 1 & Region 2 DVDs (US & UK) - works great when you've entered the code.
Bonus is that it connects straight into the HDMI port (single cable/connector) and upscales to HD format.
Basic but good value.
Very Nice, but... December 29, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this DVD player in May so that I could play my "avi" movies stored on Western Digital Passport (external hard drive). This player will not power the passport. I two sticks of Kingston 4gb data traveler flash drives and it would not work on this player. My son purchased 2 sticks of 4gb by Transcend and they worked perfectly. I am still looking for a DVD player that will play my WD passport.
Also, I could not get my photos to play from my 80gb IPOD. I would have given it 3 stars but I didn't see where the description said it would play these devices. I thought that since it had the USB port it would play.
It doen't play WMV files December 23, 2008 The only problem is that it doesn't play WMV files, but you can find DVP5992 that can play some version of WMV files
it was what we thought it was December 9, 2008 i purchased this unit for its purported ability to play dvds of any region, and to convert PAL to NTSC. using instructions found in another post here, i was easily able to set the player to region-free, et voila. it works.
Great for watching international DVDs December 2, 2008 I purchased this DVD player for watching films from Germany. The instructions for unlocking it with the remote are very simple:
press Setup select the Preference Tab Press 1,3,8,9,3,1 Press up/down key to select "0" and hit menu to exit.
After you do that, you can buy foreign films from amazon.de or other international Amazon websites, and watch them on this player. Very nice and a very nice price.
