Does not work with Mac December 30, 2008 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
My iMac could not "find" this AitPort Extreme. An hour on the phone with Apple Support later the router was still not accessing the Internet through a modem. What was even more irritating was that my PC worked with the router and accessed the net. Another call to Apple and some more time and Apple people started blaming my IP provider, the modem manufacturer, the ethernet cable manufacturer, etc, yet their own products could not function together.
AirPort Extreme a welcome addition. December 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've had many more problems with previous routers sold by Netgear (reboots a common requirement). I've used this router with Macs and PCs without problems. Excellent range.
No Mac? No Mas! December 10, 2008 0 out of 19 found this review helpful
If you are not buying this for a Mac, move along. and even then, i doubt this thing will do anything more than look good on your desk - or wherever you decide to mount it.
this is, once again, a prefect example of an aesthetically beautiful product by Apple that simply doesn't work that well, and advertises its blatant weak-points as strong-points verses its competition. what a load of marketing doo doo, but hey, Mac owners are used to spoon-fed hyperbole.
i could NEVER get this product to work acceptably! its range is un-measurable and widely inconsistent. a stable connection is not in its vocabulary at all. i could probably go on, but to be honest, i never got it working well enough to even get into the finer points and features.
Pros: this thing is beautiful!
Cons: like a super-model - beauty with no other redeeming qualities what-so-ever.
Conclusion: best looking paper-weight I have ever bought.
Recommendation: Get a D-Link DIR-655 (almost as pretty.)
what the heck? December 10, 2008 0 out of 7 found this review helpful
Very happy with the Macbook trial so a few months later purchased an Imac and and also bought the airport extreme. The Imac in the office has an airport built in and works flawlessly as a router with the macbook out in the kitchen :however, based on glowing reviews here and elsewhere I plugged in the airport extreme thinking to increase the range and performance, instead it seemed to confuse the setup, one system seemed to antagonize the other. There was diminishment of performance when running the airport extreme by itself. Not being terribly tech oriented this was giving me a headache... With thanksgiving, Amazon accepted the return with no questions asked, and I am happy to report the return to a great relationship with my 2 computers.
Works as promised December 4, 2008 I like this wireless router so much I still use it over the wireless router/modem the phone company gave me. The WiFi n-draft is the main reason I'm using it, in close second is the handy USB port for plugging external HD or printers.
I only wish it had more USB ports. Yet the elegant design makes up for the lack of USB ports. Also it is simple to operate and set up. I run a Mac Book Pro, Dell PC, Nintendo Wii without connection issues.
